Akamai has appointed Sean Li as Senior Vice President, Regional Sales and Managing Director for Asia Pacific and Japan, the company said on Thursday.
Li succeeds Parimal Pandya, who Akamai said has moved to a role leading global sales strategy for its cloud business.
Based in the region, Li will be responsible for overseeing Akamai’s growth across Asia Pacific and Japan. The company said his remit includes working with customers as they scale cloud, security and AI initiatives across markets with differing requirements around latency, data sovereignty and regulatory compliance.
Li has spent more than a decade at Akamai and most recently served as Vice President and Managing Director for Greater China. Akamai said he helped expand the business there, describing it as one of the company’s largest markets outside the United States.
In a statement, Li said enterprise AI adoption in Asia Pacific often requires implementation across multiple markets, infrastructures and regulatory environments, and that “success depends on distributing intelligence closer to users, decisions, data”.
Paul Joseph, Akamai’s Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Services, said Asia Pacific remains a significant opportunity for the company and pointed to Li’s experience in leading teams and driving growth.
Akamai said it has operated in Asia Pacific since 2003 and now serves more than 2,000 customers in the region, supported by 150 partners across key markets.
