WatchGuard Technologies has appointed Vincent Hwang as chief product officer, with the executive reporting to CEO Joe Smolarski, according to a company announcement.

The company said Hwang will lead product strategy and AI-focused platform development as managed service providers (MSPs) increasingly seek to consolidate security tools into unified platforms.

WatchGuard said Hwang has more than 20 years’ experience in cybersecurity platform development, including roles across cloud security, endpoint protection and Zero Trust. The company said he joins from Fortinet, where he led its cloud security business.

Before Fortinet, WatchGuard said Hwang worked at Sourcefire and Cisco, where he contributed to early endpoint detection and response (EDR) capabilities and helped shape advanced malware protection and Zero Trust strategies. The company said he also previously served as chief product officer at Bitdefender, leading product management and engineering.

In a statement, Smolarski said the appointment is intended to support WatchGuard’s next phase of platform and AI innovation, focused on MSP requirements and product execution.

Hwang said the market is at an “inflection point” as partners consolidate vendors and seek platforms aimed at simplifying operations while addressing evolving threats.
