The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has appointed experienced business leader Simon Bush as the organisation’s next CEO. Simon succeeds outgoing CEO Ron Gauci, who Simon worked closely alongside for the past three years.
As the AIIA’s head of Policy and Advocacy, Simon’s broad industry knowledge of information technology and his strong government relationships have supported key AIIA policy reform recommendations being adopted by the Government.
The AIIA undertook a comprehensive process to select the next CEO, with Simon’s skills and experience shining through.
AIIA Chairman, Robert Hillard, said: “The AIIA is proud to announce Simon Bush as the organisation’s next CEO. After a thorough and exhaustive process, our board is proud to have found such an outstanding leader for the organisation within our own ranks. Simon has proven his adaptability and strengths in his time with the AIIA; his hard work and influence has delivered significant policy reforms for our sector. Simon’s experience with government and ability to engage our members to drive meaningful change has been clearly demonstrated.
“On behalf of the AIIA board and members, I must thank our outgoing CEO Ron Gauci for his tireless work. The past couple of years has offered many challenges to all organisations, yet Ron leaves us with a strong membership base and a sector benefiting from his leadership. Ron has more than doubled the membership of the AIIA in his tenure, led the call for major policy change and delivered excellent opportunities for our members.
“The importance of innovative technologies and ICT has been clearly demonstrated over the past two and a half years. The sector offers incredible opportunities for the Australian economy in the coming years. The AIIA is excited Simon Bush will lead the organisation to deliver a supportive policy setting to achieve this, whilst providing our members with significant opportunities to grow.” Mr Hillard concluded.
AIIA incoming CEO, Simon Bush, said: “I’m incredibly proud to be appointed CEO of the AIIA. I’m looking forward to growing the strong legacy the AIIA has built over the last 45 years, at a time when innovative technologies have never been more important. Having met with many of our members in my time with the AIIA, I’m excited to represent and work with them to grow our industry and continue to seek the acknowledgement our sector deserves.
Ron Gauci concludes his time at the AIIA on 16 September 2022.
