The Digital Economy Council of Australia (DECA) has announced Alex Staric as its new Head of Policy. Staric will spearhead the development of regulatory frameworks, foster engagement with government stakeholders, and drive industry collaboration to advance blockchain technology and digital assets in Australia.

Before joining DECA, he served as the Commonwealth Bank’s Executive Manager of Policy Governance for over four years. His extensive policy experience also includes roles at Transport for NSW, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, Whanganui District Council, and Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

“Alex’s appointment underscores our commitment to addressing our members’ concerns about fit-for-purpose regulation,” said DECA Managing Director Amy-Rose Goodey. “As an advocate for the industry, DECA is committed to proactive engagement with policymakers, legislators, and regulatory bodies. Alex will play a crucial role in driving our strategic policy advocacy efforts, ensuring our members’ voices are effectively represented through working groups, task forces, policy submissions, and government consultations.

DECA says Staric will lead its policy initiatives, focusing on the advancement of blockchain technology and digital assets. His role will include building relationships with government and regulatory bodies, advocating for supportive policies, and engaging stakeholders to address industry challenges. He will drive strategic advocacy, represent DECA in forums, and manage policy recommendations and projects to ensure effective communication and coordination.

Staric commenced his role on August 5 and will be based in Sydney.

DECA has also confirmed that Dinali Jay will take up a role as Operations Manager.
