Check_point_logo“Check Point Software Technologies supports and welcomes the Australian Government’s $230 million Cyber Security Strategy announced by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. This is a step in the right direction and we would like to see more support for small business – the business engine of the country, said David De Laine – Regional Managing Director, Check Point Software Technologies. You are as strong as your weakest link, and attackers see small business as the weakest link.

“In addition, we welcome the appointment of Alastair MacGibbon as the Special Adviser on Cyber Security within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Having worked with Alastair we believe he understands and knows the importance of cyber security very well,” said De Laine.

“The announcement of the cyber “health checks” for the ASX100-listed companies is a step in the right direction and shows that the Turnbull government sees this as an important step for Australia. However, it does not address the business engine of the country – which are small businesses. Large companies have budgets and skills to protect themselves, whereas small businesses do not. More needs to be done for small business in the area of cybersecurity,” said De Laine. “Something as simple as setting up a cybersecurity task force to educate small business and giving them budget/ financial benefits if they comply.”
