LX-6400 and LX-6402 with optional cloud management
German network infrastructure supplier LANCOM Systems has released two new Wi-Fi 6 access points, the LX-6400 and LX-6402, with reduced latency and up to 25% more throughput per Wi-Fi client.
The LX-640x series is suitable for any use such as in schools or offices of any size, universities, shopping centers, hospitals or arenas. The access points are available now, with the portfolio being expanded with further models for indoor and outdoor use by the end of the year.
The new Wi-Fi 6 access points each have two integrated IEEE 802.11ax radio modules for parallel operation at 2.4 and 5 GHz, and they offer 4×4 multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) for the uplink and downlink for the concurrent management of large numbers of clients. The devices work with channel bandwidths of 20, 40 and 80 MHz (with 4 streams) and 160 MHz (with 2 streams). End devices with two antennas that support the reception of 160 MHz thus benefit from rapid data rates up to 2,400 Mbps in the 5-GHz frequency band. Offering the parallel use of 1,150 Mbps in the 2.4-GHz band (as channel bandwidths of 20 and 40 MHz are supported with 4 streams), the 802.11ax standard delivers a total throughput of 3,550 Mbps. Up to 16 non-overlapping channels are supported in the 5-GHz band when operated with automatic DFS channel selection.
The differences lie in the antenna design. The LANCOM LX-6400 has eight 180-degree sector antennas discreetly integrated into the housing, while the LANCOM LX-6402 has four external dual-band omni-directional antennas. These can be exchanged with sector antennas if required. Both models feature a 2.5-gigabit Ethernet PoE port (IEEE 802.3at for up to 30 Watt) and a gigabit Ethernet port.
State-of-the-art security comes with WPA3-Personal and IEEE 802.1X (WPA3-Enterprise), although the predecessor versions WPA2-Personal and WPA2-Enterprise can still be configured. Furthermore, the access points support virtualization features such as multi-SSID and VLAN. Power is supplied optionally by PoE (IEEE 802.3at) or a power supply unit.
Optional operation as a cloud-managed Wi-Fi
Like all current LANCOM access points, the new Wi-Fi 6 models offer maximum versatility in operation: They can be operated independently via the web GUI or managed centrally using zero-touch deployment via the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC). Management by WLAN controller will also be supported from April 2020.
The LANCOM LX-6400 with internal antennas is available now for EUR 699 (excl. VAT) and the LANCOM LX-6402 with external antennas costs EUR 699 (excl. VAT).
As an ideal complement to Wi-Fi 6, LANCOM added their first multi-gigabit model to the switch portfolio in December 2019. The LANCOM GS-3528XP has 12 ports supporting 2.5-gigabit Ethernet, so providing a high-performance basis for operating Wi-Fi 6 access points via PoE (Power over Ethernet) and other network components with high performance requirements.
