Meta AI have announced the availability of Llama 2, a next generation open source large language model that is free for research and commercial use. It includes model weights and starting code for pretrained and conversational fine-tuned versions (7B, 13B, and 70B parameters).

Meta stated it believes an open approach with broad accessibility is the right one for building with AI models of today’s capabilities, especially those like Llama 2 in the generative space where the technology is rapidly advancing through real, qualitative breakthroughs.

In a statement, Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerburg said “Meta has a long history of open sourcing our infrastructure and AI work — from PyTorch, the leading machine learning framework, to models like Segment Anything, ImageBind, and Dino, to basic infrastructure as part of the Open Compute Project. This has helped us build better products by driving progress across the industry. I’m looking forward to seeing what you all build!”

You can access the Llama 2 models from Meta’s website, and they’re available through Microsoft Azure and Windows, Amazon Web Services, and Hugging Face.
