NEXTDC open Queensland’s first cloud access location

NEXTDC Limited has opened its B2 Brisbane data centre as a Cloud Interconnect location for Google Cloud, becoming Queensland’s first locally available cloud access location.

The introduction of this new Cloud Interconnect location at B2 is a milestone for the Queensland market. Delivering extremely low-latency, secure access direct to Google Cloud, it will significantly improve the journey to Hybrid Cloud for enterprise and government located in Queensland.

Organisations now have the ability to connect locally, and natively to Google Cloud via two new Google Cloud Interconnect points directly at B2, which will reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a superior network experience than Internet-based connections.

Queensland businesses connecting to Google Cloud from B2 will directly benefit from direct, and private very low latency connection to Google Cloud. Local access to Google Cloud removes the need for organisations to haul their Google Cloud workloads back to Sydney via intercapital or internet-based connections. Not only will it alleviate the connectivity cost burden, but it also enables organisations to achieve significant network performance improvements in terms of latency, enabling a faster round-trip time, and close to zero jitter (Jitter being the variable associated with latency and packet delivery).

NEXTDC CEO Craig Scroggie said, “The introduction of these two Google Cloud Interconnect locations at B2 is an important step forward for Queensland. As Queensland’s first locally available cloud access point, we will deliver important connectivity and geo-redundancy for cloud service durability to a previously underserved market.”

Queensland organisations have the option to choose between Google Cloud’s dedicated Cloud Interconnect accessed via a Cross Connect, or Google Cloud’s Partner Interconnect solution which is accessed via NEXTDC’s AXON interconnection platform.

AXON is a powerful interconnection platform that seamlessly interconnects organisations into NEXTDC’s national data centre footprint, and Australia’s largest and most network-rich partner ecosystem. On AXON, organisations gain immediate access to all major cloud providers, carrier networks and ICT services providers nationwide. As Australia’s most cloud-connected data centre provider, NEXTDC provides organisations the availability, diversity, and resiliency they need from their IT infrastructure, enabling them to directly interconnect their business to their clouds and ICT services, anywhere, anytime.

“Our customers are leaning further into their digital infrastructure and networks, and the critical role that NEXTDC plays is ensuring they are securely and directly interconnected to the clouds and IT services that drive the growth of their business. Direct connectivity to Google Cloud via this new Cloud location in Brisbane further expands the capability we offer our customers, for secure, low-latency, reliable and easy-to-manage interconnectivity that is increasingly needed as they advance their journey to cloud,” added Craig.
