AIIA appoints John Paitaridis as new Chair

AIIA LogoThe Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has announced its national board for the 2016-17 year at its Annual General Meeting held in Brisbane. The board will be Chaired by John Paitaridis, managing director of Optus Business, effective immediately.

In line with the AIIA’s by-laws, there were four elected positions to be filled among the 16-person board. John Paitaridis, Kate Burleigh, managing director Intel Australia, Marie Johnson, managing director and chief digital officer, Centre for Digital Business, and Kee Wong, managing director e-Centric Innovations, were all re-elected.  An additional three board appointed positions will be filled over the coming three months.

Following confirmation of his appointment as Chair, Mr Paitaridis said, “The AIIA has a significant role to play in leading and promoting the ICT sector. To do so, it needs a big vision and clear agenda and I am looking forward to the challenge.

“With a greater focus on nurturing partnerships and collaboration, fostering innovation, building IT skills, and advocating for policy at the State and Federal level, I am confident the AIIA will play a significant role in leading and promoting our sector and positioning Australia’s digital and technology businesses of all sizes for the future,” he added.

Additionally, Mike Pym, CEO, Pym’s Technology Lawyers and Elizabeth Vega, CEO, Informed Solutions were voted Deputy Chairs and Charles Lindop, CEO, KTM Capital was re-elected as Treasurer.

AIIA’s national board is currently comprised of:

  • Marie Johnson, managing director and chief digital officer, Centre for Digital Business;
  • Mark Nicholls, managing director, Information Professionals;
  • Martijn Blanken, group managing director and chief customer officer, Telstra;
  • Matt Codrington, executive director Australia & New Zealand, Lenovo;
  • Murray Hurps, general manager, Fishburners;
  • Pip Marlow, managing director, Microsoft Australia;
  • Peter Strohkorb, CEO, Peter Strohkorb Consulting International

Rob Fitzpatrick, chief executive officer of the AIIA said, “The board has provided invaluable advice and guidance in the development of our strategic plan and I’m looking forward to continuing my strong partnership with these industry leaders over the coming year.

“This past year has been one of consolidation as we sharpen our focus to ensure we deliver the best value and opportunities to our members and that we most effectively represent the ICT sector with policy and decision makers. Longer term, we intend to extend the AIIA’s relevance to other industry sectors and expand our business and reputation,” said Mr Fitzpatrick.

The election was conducted by Election Consulting Group and was open to all AIIA members between 13 and 26 October 2016.
