euNetworks has been named as a connectivity partner for Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) European Sovereign Cloud, with the company set to provide private connectivity into the new EU-based cloud environment.
The announcement positions euNetworks among the first connectivity partners identified for AWS’s European Sovereign Cloud, which is designed to meet EU data sovereignty requirements including data residency, operational autonomy and resiliency, according to the companies.
In a statement, euNetworks said it will provide secure, direct connections between data centres and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud region, aimed at supporting customers seeking to keep data within the European Union when accessing cloud services.
Marisa Trisolino, CEO of euNetworks, said organisations in Europe are facing growing regulatory pressure around data sovereignty. “Data sovereignty is one of the most critical topics for businesses right now and this priority is only set to grow in strength, particularly in the EU and wider Europe where regulatory pressures continue to rise,” Trisolino said.
The move comes as cloud providers and infrastructure companies respond to increasing demand from governments and regulated industries for cloud services that can demonstrate stronger guarantees around data location, governance and operational control.
AWS has described the European Sovereign Cloud as an independent cloud for Europe, located entirely within the EU. The companies did not disclose commercial terms of the partnership.
