BlueVoyant has appointed John Hernandez as its next chief executive officer, with co-founder and outgoing CEO James Rosenthal to remain as chairman of the board.

The company said Hernandez will take responsibility for global strategy, innovation and operations, with a focus on scaling what it describes as an AI-driven cybersecurity platform. The announcement positions the leadership change as part of a broader push to combine detection, risk and response capabilities.

In a statement, Hernandez said AI is increasing the complexity of cyber threats and argued organisations need “a more unified model that brings together detection, risk, and response.”

Hernandez previously served as president and general manager of Quest Software’s Microsoft Platform Management business, where BlueVoyant said he led security, identity and data management solutions for Microsoft hybrid and cloud environments. BlueVoyant also cited prior roles including leading a business transformation at Genesys and senior leadership positions at Salesforce, IBM and Cisco.

Rosenthal described the transition as the next stage for the company, saying Hernandez’s experience in scaling enterprise platforms made him “the right leader to guide BlueVoyant into its next phase of growth and market leadership.”

BlueVoyant said it was founded in 2017 and works with more than 1,000 clients across 45 countries, processing 38 million alerts a day. The company provides managed detection and response, third-party risk management and digital risk protection services.

The company said it will continue developing its third-party risk management capabilities, including continuous and automated monitoring intended to move beyond “point-in-time” supplier assessments.

Board member Tom Glocer said he will transition from chairman to vice-chairman as part of the change.
