The Australian Telecommunications Alliance (ATA) has changed its constitution that will see only senior leaders from telecommunications companies appointed to its Board.
As part of the change, Macquarie Group Executive Luke Clifton (pictured) has joined the ATA Board.
The ATA’s decision is aimed at strengthening industry representation and ensuring the Board reflects the leadership of organisations directly responsible for delivering national connectivity and telecommunications services.
Clifton said the move underscores the importance of experienced industry voices guiding the sector at a time of rapid technological and regulatory change. “I’ve been a staunch and passionate advocate for great service delivery and innovation in the telecommunications industry throughout my entire career,” he said. “The change of Board composition to include only the most senior leaders from our industry is a strong signal of intent that we, as a critical sector for Australia, are committed to being the best we can be for our customers, partners and stakeholders.”
With more than two decades of experience across secure networking, SD-WAN, SASE and managed services, Clifton has worked across government, enterprise, small and mid-sized business and not-for-profit sectors. His appointment is expected to support the ATA’s work in setting national standards, encouraging innovation and strengthening the resilience of Australia’s telecommunications ecosystem.
The ATA plays a central role in shaping policy positions, advocating for improved service delivery, and supporting the growth and competitiveness of the sector. The updated Board structure is intended to enhance these efforts by ensuring decision-making is informed by leaders directly accountable for service performance and customer outcomes.
Clifton said he looks forward to contributing to the organisation’s work. “I look forward to working closely with my industry peers to support the industry in every way I can.”
Macquarie Technology Group said it supports the ATA’s decision and will continue to contribute to national discussions on service excellence, network resilience and customer experience across the telecommunications landscape.
