West Australian technology provider CMTG has launched a locally developed private cloud platform aimed at engineering and construction firms seeking faster performance and stronger control over project data. The platform has been designed to run large 3D models and specialised applications used in computer-aided design, building information modelling and engineering simulation.
CMTG said the platform offers dedicated computing resources rather than the shared-resource model of public cloud environments. The system is built on AMD EPYC processors and NVIDIA GPUs, with the company aiming to deliver predictable performance for workloads that require high processing and graphics capacity. The company said the platform is also intended to support compliance obligations faced by engineering and construction firms.
The private cloud is hosted across two Perth data centres and can be accessed via private circuits or dark fibre links. CMTG said this design provides consistent performance for staff working remotely, on site or across multiple offices, with all customer data retained within Western Australia to meet data-sovereignty and regulatory requirements.
Perth-based Dynapumps has reported performance improvements since adopting the upgraded platform. Chief Operating Officer Iain Torrance said engineering teams had seen smoother operation of key applications, noting that the system’s stability and responsive performance had also been recognised by partner vendors testing their software on CMTG’s virtual desktop environment.
CMTG said organisations often assume private cloud is incompatible with their engineering software, but that recent engagements with vendors have demonstrated full compatibility. The company said the platform is intended to support emerging technologies such as digital twins, IoT systems and artificial intelligence while keeping sensitive project data onshore.
The service includes multilayered data-protection measures such as backups, immutable snapshots and ransomware-detection tools across both Perth facilities. CMTG said the platform is designed to provide local firms with an alternative to public cloud services as they face increasing performance, security and compliance demands.
